Bloomington, Ind.—Cairril.com Design & Marketing has designed the artwork for the Lotus World Music and Arts Festival T-shirt. The mission of the Lotus Education & Arts Foundation is to create opportunities to experience, celebrate, and explore the diversity of the world’s cultures through music and the arts. The annual festival, held in Bloomington in the fall, attracts tens of thousands of visitors and is the second-largest world music festival in the U.S.
“For our design of the Lotus T-shirt, I wanted to capture what I see as the essence of Lotus: Music, dancing, nighttime, color, activity, community, and fun,” says Cairril.com principal Cairril Mills. Cairril worked with Indian illustrator and fashion designer Harpreet Gill to develop a range of concepts for the Lotus crew to review.
Working exclusively via e-mail, Cairril took charge of concepting and art direction, while Harpreet created the illustration. “Harpreet took my verbal art direction and reference images to create a dynamic image that reflects the Lotus brand,” says Cairril.
Harpreet is a designer who specializes in creating beautiful illustrations, prints, graphics, and clothes. She has several years of experience working with international clothing brands. She has her own design firm, StylePiper, where her work is inspired by art, music, vintage fashion, and global travel.
“When I saw Harpreet’s portfolio, I knew she would be perfect for this project,” says Cairril. “Plus I really liked the idea of a cross-cultural collaboration to create the Lotus identity. It fits with the Lotus aim of bringing people from diverse backgrounds closer together.”
Cairril feels lucky to have had the opportunity to work on the project. “I’m honored to be in the company of the incredible pool of talent Lotus has drawn on over the years to create their identity. The Lotus folks were fantastic to work with, very interested in collaboration and supporting artistic expression.”
LuAnne Holladay, Marketing and Communications Director for the Lotus Education & Arts Foundation, had this to say about working with Cairril.com:
Sometimes, it takes a lot of design drafts before you find the one. This year’s beautiful and evocative design from Cairril.com came together pretty quickly, and we knew, even in the first rough, that we were looking at a winner. Cairril and company have been great to work with from start to finish, and their commitment to delivering on deadlines has kept us firmly on track.
At the same time, our discussions about concepts, design elements, and production timelines have been relaxed and collegial, and refreshingly efficient: we’ve been able to do a lot of work in a relatively small amount of time.
It’s been great to work with Cairril.com (a long-time Lotus sponsor, incidentally) on the 2012 art for the Festival. And we know that Lotus fans are going to love it.
Based in Bloomington, Cairril.com Design and Marketing provides brand-building services to a nationwide client base and has garnered numerous awards for design, strategy, and community involvement.
